NOVARC – Founders Of World’s First Collaborative Robot – Attends OSEA In Singapore

Nov 17, 2022

Novarc Technologies Inc. (Novarc), a full-stack robotics company specializing in the design and commercialization of collaborative robots (cobots) and AI-based machine vision solutions for autonomous welding, will be attending OSEA in Singapore, Nov. 15-17.

Novarc’s Spool Welding Robot (SWR) is the world’s first collaborative welding robot (cobot) designed specifically for pipe, small pressure vessel, and other types of roll welding. Novarc’s welding automation technology provides a solution for fabrication shops that lowers the cost of welding, increases productivity/shop capacity and achieves more consistent weld quality while improving welder ergonomics.

“Our customers have come back to purchase multiple Spool Welding Robots (SWR) for their shops, as it has helped them combat the shortage of welders, win more projects, and get ahead of their competition,” says Soroush Karimzadeh, CEO of Novarc.

Novarc recently announced it is partnering with Lincoln Electric, the leading global manufacturer of advanced arc welding solutions and automated joining, assembly and cutting systems, to expand Novarc’s automated cobot pipe welding solutions.

As part of the partnership, Novarc will integrate Lincoln Electric’s welding technologies, including Lincoln’s patented Surface Tension Transfer® (STT®) root pass technology and HyperFill® twin wire MIG welding solutions into Novarc’s automated cobot pipe welding solution. Additionally, Lincoln Electric will promote Novarc’s Spool Welding Robot (SWR) for automated cobot process pipe welding.

Novarc’s SWR solution revolutionized pipe welding when it was introduced in 2017, by automating pipe welding and paving the way for the introduction of cobots in the welding industry. The SWR works alongside a human operator, to increase productivity, weld quality and consistency, and customers typically achieve a six to 18-month return on investment.

Novarc has experienced significant growth in the past three years; doubling the number of team members, and SWR sales in 2022. The agreement with Lincoln Electric, will allow Novarc to further collaborate on more products, including incorporating AI and machine learning, which is expected to continue the growth trajectory.

Novarc recently launched the following new technologies including SWR+HyperFill®, and SWR-F (fillet welding):

SWR+HyperFill®

With the SWR+HyperFill® option, fabrication shops can expand the capabilities of their SWR. The system increases heavy fabrication productivity by increasing weld deposition rates and deposition efficiencies (increases Factored Diameter Inches to 350-500 per shift on carbon steel pipes / meets ASME Section IX and B31.3 WPS qualification requirements).

SWR-F

The SWR-F enables easier and faster fillet welding to achieve consistent, high quality fillet welds. The SWR-F provides a full view of the critical area on the HMI.
